evolutionary development of minerals
Future Remnants is a research project that examines the influence of humans towards the evolutionary development of minerals, resulting in various sculptures. The sculptures present new minerals formed by a reaction to pollution on raw materials like copper, iron and zink.
Based on scientific research that assumes that the increase of mineral diversity over the last fifty years can be attributed to men, the series of experiments can be seen as a prelude of what’s to come. During her research, Xandra discovered the existence of 208 new minerals. Humans are responsible for the re-distribution of matter on a large scale. In addition, we create situations that lead to unintentional and unexpected reactions. To prove the credibility of the change in mineralogy of the earth by humankind, the topic has been made tangible through material research.
