__Born in Lauingen (Germany), Diana Scherer studied fine art and photography at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Since 2003 she has been living and working in Amsterdam. Fascinated by the dynamics of belowground plant parts, she investigates the hidden world of roots and tries to apply the intelligence of plants in her work. Her projects are investigations of the relationship man has with his natural environment and his desire to control nature. Specifically, Diane is currently developing textiles and carpets made from plant roots, in collaboration with the Radboud University Nijmegen.
Our collaboration with Diane started with her participation in the Regeneration Exhibition with Interwoven: a collection of pieces exploring patterns of roots intelligence, an ongoing investigation into the possibilities of plant root applications. At the Dutch Design Week 2016, she has been awarded the New Material Award thanks to her amazing roots grown carpet. Between 2001 and 2008, she received several grants from the Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture.
Her work has been published in several art and design magazines and presented in solo and group exhibitions in Paris, New York, Berlin and Seoul.
