___ Inspired by a trip to the volcanic island of Stromboli courtesy of the Fiorucci Trust a land of black rocks and sunsets a new collection of Well Proven Furniture is designed including the first ever Well Proven Chaise.
Using the same process as the previous Well Proven stools and chairs a technique of adding powdered graphite is developed to the mix and specially mixed spirit stains to dye the legs.
The Well Proven series began with the discovery that within industry between 50-80% waste is created in processing raw timber into usable products. Designers made a new material from this waste that usually comes in the form of sawdust, shavings or chippings. A bizarre reaction between this wood waste and bio-resin appears, where the mixture expands up to five times its original volume into a strong, lightweight foamed material.
___ Transnatural Label & Lab presents the Living Matter(s) exhibition combined with its Art and Design collection at the Salone in Ventura Lambrate in Milan from 14 - 19 April. Living Matter(s) dives into the world of synthetic fabricated bio materials, objects and projects with comparable qualities.
The exhibition gives an insight in applied design and its techniques to work with living materials as a form of new craftsmanship. Living Matter(s) shows a.o. objects grown from fungus in a process similar to natural 3D printing, ivory made from recycled teeth, to synthetic biological breathing leaves that refresh polluted air. Get inspired by these new insights in using living matter(s) in design.

___The research on the Windworks project has started in collaboration with designer Merel Karhof. The aim of Windworks is to make a series of new design completely fabricated with wind. In this project we closely collaborate with experts out of the old school windmill industry in the Netherlands.
In the typical dutch craftsmanship area called 'De Zaanse Schans', a collective of old windmills is situated. One of them produces wood, the other paint & wax pigments, and cheese. The first two ingredients are the starting point of the research and development within the Transnatural Laboratory. This windmill area was the environment to get inspired in the first phase.
Instead of starting to design and match the final concept with the matching materials and (production) techniques, we took an approach from a slightly different angle by making various material experiments together with the experts out the industry. The material concept and its effects is rigid to the final art/design concept. We keep you posted on results.
___The world premiere of fungus grown objects by Maurizio Montalti for Transnatural will be shown at the Salone 2015 in Milaan. This groundbreaking, revolutionairy way of growing materials and therefore products by implementing fungal mycelia is truly unique.
Designer Maurizio Montalti envisions a world where the classical concept of production is replaced by a new paradigm based on growth and cultivation and where products come to life through a process comparable to a sort of natural 3D printing.
